Small covered chestnut box

Description

This small box is turned from Chinese elm (the box), walnut (the lid), and sapele (the knob). Chinese elm is a common street tree here in Berkeley, where it is loved for the foliage and feared for a bad habit of dropping its long limbs in storms. I got some of the wood after a large limb came down in front of our house. The wood has a really interesting grain pattern. It is finished with walnut oil and food-safe wax.

The box is about 1 3/4″ high, and 3 3/4″ high with the snug fitting lid.
