Blue Pine and Redwood Bowl

Description

This larger bowl was turned from a piece of Monterey Pine slab that has dramatic bluing streaks bonded to a solid piece of redwood. I set up the wood so the blue streaks would line up with and continue the lines of the redwood grain.

The bowl is finished with oil and food-safe wax (beeswax and carnauba).

Blue Pine (also known as Beetle Kill Pine) is the result of the bark beetle carrying a fungus in the tree that ultimately changes its color and kills the tree. This is only cosmetic and it has no effect on the structure of the wood.
